You know whats bullshit? The new "Early Access" system in Heroes of Newerth released by s2 games. As most players who play the Moba (multiplayer online battle arena) game genre already know, Heroes of Newerth has recently decided to go free to play. Now what does this mean for the people who bought for the game before it decided to go free to play? People who bought the game were dubbed "Legacy" players and were told promised they would have access to all in-game heroes and game modes at all times. They were also told that new players who haven't bought the game (Non-Legacy players) would not have access to all game modes and would only be able to pick a limited amount of Heroes, which will randomly be chosen every week. Non-Legacy players would have to use coins earned from matchmaking games if they wanted unlock heroes permanently or buy tokens to play different game modes. Now this was all fine and dandy until Heroes of Newerth decided to introduce *Early Access* heroes.
"Early access" heroes are in-game characters which are due to be released soon, but if a player is willing to pay good sum of cash he/she can gain up to a month's worth of "Early Access" with a hero of his/her choice and will be able to use this heroes in-game before the hero is released for all other players. There are some major problems that arise with the release of this new "Early Access" system. First off, all Early Access heroes so far have been way to overpowered and unlocking one gives a player who is willing to pay a major in-game advantage over others. Secondly, all players can gain "Early Access". This includes all Non-Legacy players. Now this what the Legacy players were promised! Legacy players were promised access to all heroes at all times, but since the release of "Early Access" any Non-Legacy player can gain a major advantage over virtually any Legacy player. Finally, The only way one can gain "Early Access" is by paying money out of your own pocket? Now I could understand doing that for Non-Legacy players since they never payed for the game, but as Legacy player who were promised access to all heroes and have already paid a pretty good chunk of cash for a game which is now free couldn't they at least include an alternate way to gain "Early Access"?
Now this boggles my mind as to why they would release this system right after promising access to all heroes to the Legacy player who have supported the game right from the beginning. They might as well come right out at say "Thanks for all the money, but now why don't you go ahead and pay more for what you've already payed for?". It's like if a person were to walk into a restaurant and buy food but then find out that he/she would have to pay an extra sum of money just to be able to eat the food that he/she just bought. If I were to see a developer from S2 games and be able to give him my opinion on all this I'd probably tell him " You know, I like what you've done with the game. Legacy players, that's fine. Non-Legacy players, that's fine. Early Access, that's bullshit!"
